INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN BY TARGET LIVING Target Living is an interior architecture and design consultancy, established in 2002 by designers Tara Bernerd and Thomas Griem The consultancy focuses on interiors and space planning, with a portfolio which extends from property development and commercial premises, to art galleries and private homes. The consultancy's designers and architects combine creative flair with commercial sense. They understand how to configure functioning and desirable environments and how to add genuine value.
LIVING SPACES Target Living turns empty shells into inspiring homes. The team has achieved this for a host of property developers, architects and private clients on projects of all sizes. Target Living is one of the leading Interior Architecture and Design companies working out of London today and avoids the out of date formulas for living space. The designers take clients to the forefront of design standards, anticipating what properties of today should be about. EXHIBITION INSTALLATIONS Target Living is approached by some exciting people to create one-off spaces for events. This involves delivering an environment that makes a strong statement, be it at the London Art Fair or in Selfridges department store. These installations are great challenges, involving fast turnarounds and act as exhilarating opportunities for the team.

MY AIM IS TO KEEP BRINGING THIS VALUE TO EACH PROJECT, AND TO KEEP ON MAKING A DIFFERENCE.” After developing her business savvy at property company Nelson Bakewell, Tara Bernerd consolidated her experience and finally joined Yoo Ltd, Philippe Starck’s international property and design company, where she worked on schemes internationally, quickly becoming a partner, and launching the more boutique arm of the agency Yoo Too. In 2005 Tara Bernerd received the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award in New York, for her work on an apartment in central London. Tara Bernerd is the CEO and Head Designer of Target Living, and is also a Director of Chelsfield plc.
THOMAS GRIEM "GOOD DESIGN IS A COLLABORATION OF INSPIRATION, ORGANISATION AND TIMING. IT CAN BETTER OUR QUALITY OF LIFE AND HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON OUR HAPPINESS.” Working closely with Bernerd is Thomas Griem who heads up the architectural arm of the business. Having studied in Berlin at Hochschule der Künste and London’s University of Westminster, he won the Hubert Sands Memorial Award, and holds a BA and a diploma in architecture. His experience spans residential, retail and office schemes, including the restoration of the Carl Zeiss factory in central Jena and the complete refurbishment of Nike stores throughout Europe. It was at Yoo that he met Tara, and from there the duo launched Target Living in 2002.
OUR ROLE Target Living promises to offer a complete, in-depth life-styling service, this means that we will also market schemes, providing everything from design and the coolest brochures to dynamic advertising. In essence we become the creative director to all projects. We will also consider a development role and work as a joint-venture partner on selected schemes. Our role is to provide full architectural interior layouts, detailed finishes schedules, i.e. kitchen and bathroom solutions, covering all areas bringing you the visions and turning those visions into reality. Target Living is working on a host of interesting schemes in London, around the country and abroad. These involve a mixture of long-term relationships and new clients. Target Living’s aim is to continue working with all its’ clients whose repeat business is so highly valued, as well as developing the business in new areas.

This vast 215,00 sq ft redevelopment was formerly a film archive. It has undergone a complete renovation with Berkeley Homes and Target Living to produce 543 apartments. The consultancy also advised on the marketing of the property which included the interior design of the show flat. Target Living received valuable press interest for this project. Due to the amount accumulated, one piece has been selected to reflect this. CLIENT Berkeley Homes // Target Living was commissioned to create an installation and gallery to show "living with art". Target Living created The Art House. The structure and surrounding gallery were designed and built by Target Living and all interiors including the overall Art Selection. CLIENT London Art Fair // Target Living has been appointed as the interior architects of this new casino bar in Newcastle. The bar will have a Cuban theme, and the double height spaces will give the area a courtyard feel. CLIENT Aspinall // Target Living was assigned to carry out a complete interior renovation of a four story period residence in Belgravia. The scope of works included new wall and floor finishes throughout, a careful selection of window treatments and furnishings, overall space planning and a revived lighting scheme. Target Living’s success with the head office has led to the further appointment for Aspinall’s prestigious London Casino and a new gaming floor is due to open in January 2006 designed by Target Living. In this instance, there was no marketing or coverage in respect to the client’s privacy. CLIENT Aspinall's // Following their successful collaboration in 2002, B&Q, the UK's largest homes retailer, has again partnered with Target Living to create three stylish bathroom concepts. Using the UK's three most common bathroom sizes, Target Living have created a stunning set of designs, which Tara has categorised as: 'Bachelor' - the ultimate shower room; 'Babies' - the place where bath time can be fun for all the family and finally 'Bling' - the luxury of having it all. All three designs were created using B&Q products currently available at selected stores across the UK. CLIENT B&Q // After the success of the River Houses, Target Living was appointed again by the developers Rees Elliot to work on the interior architecture of two contemporary villas in the heart of Lewes. Target Living worked with architect Lap Chan on this project. The Target Living team introduced an original interior layout bringing strong design value to run throughout, this included working on layouts, a palette of striking materials through to the detailed design finish. The Villas were bought to the market and launched in March 2003. Target Living received valuable press interest for this project. CLIENT Rees Elliot // In Spring 2005 Target Living was approached by the Developers of London’s elite development “The Knightsbridge” to design an exciting Studio apartment. Target Living’s brief was to introduce a more contemporary feel to the already existing palette and choices in the building. A series of other apartments, ranging in size, had previously been designed by other leading Interior designers. Bernerd and her partner Griem are renowned for their bold style, strong use of colour and understanding of space. These strengths are the signature of Target Living and provided the essential ingredients of this London Studio apartment. The attention to lifestyle here was key. It was important to appreciate all the potential demands of such a small space in terms of use, and then incorporate them all into the design. Target Living’s approach to the layout was fundamental, creating different areas, indeed territories, for varying uses i.e. sleeping, eating and relaxing. Features then introduced included a raised white lacquer platform for the bed area, a moody tinted mirror and screen fringe curtains. The palette boasts a rich blend of charcoal greys and bright oranges, with a mix of indulgent materials. The outcome is a unique London Studio. Officially launched September 2005. CLIENT London and Newcastle // Target Living was appointed by developers London and Newcastle to create a modern interior in a neglected, derelict Chelsea town house. The team worked on the architecture, interior design and oversaw all works for this project. Target Living added beneficial floor space by optimising the internal layouts. With new plans the team then worked on an eye-catching interior with the use of rich materials and a strong palette. Target Living received valuable press interest for this project. CLIENT London and Newcastle // This Penthouse is part of a new residential development, situated in a vibrant waterside quarter in the heart of London. Paddington Walk Ltd brought Target Living onboard to design the layout for the duplex Penthouses which cap the two tallest towers in the Paddington Basin development. Starting with the shell, Target Living were given a brief to create a lavish apartment with strong design statements and thoughtful attention to space and internal layouts. By conjuring up an image of who would live there and how they would use the apartment they optimised the incredible 3748ft² space and turned it into the ideal living environment. The layout is strikingly spacious with generous rooms perfect for luxury living; cleverly designed to cater to a couple or family with a variety of lifestyle preferences, from party entertaining to indulgent spaces for private relaxation. From allowing light to pass between floors with a glass staircase and walkway, to allocating an impressive space to the master bedroom; through out this project Target Living have challenged the norm and created unique spaces with elegant, bold finishing's and a rich palate in terms of colours and textiles. CLIENT Paddington // Target Living has been appointed to design the interiors of the two largest and most prestigious penthouses at Paddington Walk, the residential quarter of the new central London regeneration scheme, Paddington Basin. The penthouses occupy the entire top two floors of buildings A and D. Target Living has designed and fully specified the fit out of these units, giving detailed consideration to all aspects of the internal architecture. The consultancy is also designing and overseeing the furnishing and dressing of the units, and is advising on their marketing and presentation. CLIENT Paddington Walk Ltd // The River Lane project comprises three new cutting-edge houses in Petersham, Richmond. Target Living was appointed to work alongside the architects Terry Farrell & Partners on the interior design, furnishing and decorating. Target Living’s role included selecting interior finishes and window treatments, as well as final styling and detailing. The consultancy was also responsible for bringing in Tim Jefferies, owner of Hamilton’s Gallery in central London to work with Tara Bernerd on appropriate artwork. These 6,000sq ft properties were put on the market in October 2003. All three houses were sold for the full asking price with in the time scale set by the client. Target Living’s work was honoured with the 2004 Daily Mail Award for best interior design. Target Living received valuable press interest for this project. CLIENT Berkeley Homes // Leading hairstylist Terry Bishop and his partner Carl Dawson appointed Target Living to design their new Chelsea salon, on the site of a former restaurant. The consultancy oversaw the transformation on site, and were responsible for all the internal architecture, layout and design. The resulting salon focuses on the idea of luxurious indulgence. CLIENT Sejour // Target Living was commissioned to create a Brazilian style Installation for the event, "Brazil 40 degrees one of London’s flagship department stores. Target Living created a Brazilian style beach house, a Barraca and designed and built the structure and interiors using only goods available at Selfridges for all the interior design. Target Living received valuable press interest for this project. Due to the amount accumulated, one piece has been selected to reflect this. CLIENT Selfridges & Co // Target Living were appointed by a private client to build and design a shooting lodge in the heart of Devon. The Shooting Lodge, involved restoration of an existing barn as well as an additional new build and Target Living worked with local architects to bring the building to fruition. Their brief was to create an upmarket lodge with a boy's club feel which would act as a base for guests on a sporting visit. Most importantly the lodge needed to have the facilities to entertain large groups to a high level. Target Living focused first on the layout and created territories for relaxing, drinking and eating. For the interiors they took inspiration from the local surroundings to create a contemporary feel which was true to use and reflective of the season. They used local slate to create a bespoke fire place and feature wall, the interior has a strong burgundy colour palate with fabrics imitating shooting outfits. CLIENT Private Client // Target Living transformed an old bank into a stylish London duplex apartment. The project required full restoration work on the ground floor and the complete rebuild of the lower ground floor. Target Living was responsible for the new design and overseeing the project. Tara Bernerd’s rich palette and design choices completed the highly detailed interiors. Tara Bernerd won the interior designer of the year award which she collected in New York after entering images of The Old Bank. Target Living received valuable press interest for this project. CLIENT Private // Channel 4 appointed Tara Bernerd to lead a team of ten apprentices working with them on the design and build of a Target Living designed apartment at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. Target Living worked on the interior layouts and full interior design specification for this stylish London apartment. The project also entailed new bathrooms, staircase and a striking new kitchen through to a detailed interior finish. The apartment has been used by developers, Berkeley Homes to ambassador this enormous development and ‘Bricking it’ showed viewers nationwide the apprentices success in completing a unique apartment. TARA B Tara Bernerd was approached by retailers Andrew Martin and Chaplin’s to produce a furniture range which reflected her style and taste. Tara B furniture was launched in December 2004. The first collection includes the following pieces. My Little Bibliothèque: a perspex side table, ideal for storing books complete with a leather table top available in a wide selection of colours and finishes. An elegant solution for bedside and sofa side tables. Tara B’s first collection also includes the stud range, Stud club: a large club chair with a feature design on the back of the chair, Stud love and friend: a two-seater and poof, Stud trois: a three-seater sofa and The velvet range: fully dressed lamp and mirror. Tara B is evolving ideas and currently working on a number of exciting new designs with the aim of bringing these to the market in 2006. Tara B received valuable press interest for these items.
